About

Hi! I'm a third-year undergraduate math major focused on applications of math to medicine and human physiology, medical imaging and image segmentation, and computational science. I love to lead outreach projects to improve career outcomes for math students, combat math anxiety, and promote community amongst past, current, and future mathematicians as well!
I love to engage with other students, faculty, and mathematicians/scientists further along in their careers, and I've been lucky to have many mentors around me. Without mentors, I would not have had access to nearly as many opportunities as I've had in the past year. This is why one of the key goals for the rest of my career is to make sure students, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds, have access to mentors and the resources that come with them. This leads into my favorite event to put on:
🎓️
The Mathposium is an annual event I started at UTA in 2022. The goals are to showcase math research and create a pipeline for early-career undergrads to receive mentorship from senior undergrads and graduate students. Read more about the Mathposium by following the tab in the top right!
Luckily, as a math student at UTA, I have access to lots of very active student orgs. From 2022 onward, I've been running our chapter our the Mathematical Association of America, which has been at UTA for 21 years(longer than I've been alive) and is the largest and most active of our five student orgs! We also have chapters of the Association for Women in Math, Society for Industrial and Applied Math, Pi Mu Epsilon, and the American Mathematical Society. As President of the MAA at UTA, I've learned a lot about building and strengthening community, finding creative solutions to complex problems, and uplifting my community of mathematicians. Further, I've realized that I want to continue work like this throughout my life!

With wanting to work on community-projects for the rest of my life, I have some pretty ambitious goals for the future. Firstly, I want to have a positive impact on the community around me, especially in academia! Whether it be through connecting peers with internships, fellowships, and scholarships or running summer programs for high schoolers, I want to get people interested in math and make sure those pursuing a mathematical career are set up for success. Secondly, through my experience as an advocate for UTA at the Texas State Capitol, I learned that I want to play a role in science and education policy. In the future, I see myself either at agencies, such as the NSF or AAAS, or through programs, such as the SIAM Policy Fellowship, making an impact on the scientific community as a whole. Last, but not least, I want to contribute to research at the intersection of math and medicine. Through mathematical models, I believe we can better understand humans and our interactions with each other, the environment, and disease. Finding optimal treatment plans in-silico through patient-specific models can have a huge impact on many people's lives and lead to quicker, safer treatment and better treatment prognosis.
